Arvind Kejriwal Plans Door-To-Door Campaign After Manish Sisodia's Arrest

The AAP will launch a door-to-door campaign from March 5 under which all MLAs will apprise people about the "false cases" registered against party leaders Manish Sisodia and Satyendar Jain.

The decision, taken at a meeting between Kejriwal and AAP MLAs, came a day after Mr Sisodia and Jain resigned from the Delhi Cabinet.

While Mr Sisodia was arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation(CBI) on Sunday in connection with alleged corruption in the formulation and implementation of the now-scrapped Delhi liquor policy for 2021-22, Mr Jain is lodged in Tihar Jail in a money laundering case since May last year.

"From March 5, we will go door-to-door and speak with the people of Delhi and explain to them how our two innocent ministers are being trapped in false cases. We will also hold street meetings ('nukkad sabha')," a source said.

Senior AAP leader Atishi, who is set to become the first woman minister in the Arvind Kejriwal-led Delhi Cabinet, has been a key member of the team tasked with implementing the party's educational reforms in the national capital.

'Fear UP Cops Will Kill Me': Gangster-Politician Goes To Supreme Court

Gangster-turned-politician Atiq Ahmed on Wednesday sought protection from the Supreme court saying he feared being killed in a fake encounter by the Uttar Pradesh Police, days after a key witness in the 2005 Raju Pal murder and his two security guards were gunned down.

His plea comes on a day a BJP MP indirectly warned of such a possibility. Also on Wednesday, the house of an Atiq Ahmed aide - where the politician also stayed earlier - was bulldozed by municipal authorities in Prayagraj, citing a civic law violation.

The former Samajwadi Party MP, who is lodged at a Gujarat jail, said the UP Police in all likelihood will seek his remand to take him to Prayagraj.

He "genuinely apprehends that he may be eliminated during this transit period", the plea filed in the Supreme Court said, seeking directions to the Centre and the state government to ensure his security.

On Twitter, Subrat Pathak, the BJP MP from Kannauj, recalled the 2020 death of gangster Vikas Dubey in an alleged exchange of fire with policemen who were accompanying him. The car carrying them had overturned, according to the police version.

Pathak called the killing of Umesh Pal and the police personnel "a direct attack" on Uttar Pradesh government.

"Remember, when Vikas Dubey didn't survive, it is not necessary to tell what would happen to these evil people," he tweeted in Hindi. "And I would not be surprised at all if Atiq's car too overturns now." Last Friday, Umesh Pal, the prime witness in the 2005 murder of Bahujan Samaj Party MLA Raju Pal, was shot dead in UP's Prayagraj. Two policemen assigned to protect him also succumbed to their injuries - the second one only on Wednesday.

When the Umesh Pal killing figured in the state assembly on Saturday, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said gangsters will be ground into the dust. "Mitti mein mela denge," he had said in Hindi.

On Monday, Arbaaz, an accused in the Umesh Pal murder was killed in a police encounter in Prayagraj. Atiq Ahmed, accused in the 2005 case, is also booked in the Umesh Pal murder case.

In his plea, Atiq Khan, 61, referred to Adityanath's statement in the assembly and claimed there is a "genuine and perceptible threat" to him and his family members.

He claimed they have all been falsely roped in by the UP Police in the Umesh Pal case. It seemed that a conspiracy has been hatched to wipe them out politically as well physically, the petition said.

It alleged that Ahmed's two minor sons have already been taken into "illegal custody" by police and kept at an undisclosed location.

"It is even unknown to the petitioner whether they are dead or alive. The other two sons of the petitioner are also in jail in other false cases," it said, adding that the petitioner fears that they may be killed in a fake encounter.

Ahmed sought directions to the Centre, state of Uttar Pradesh and others to protect his life against the "open, direct and immediate threat" to his life from high state functionaries of Uttar Pradesh.

The petition said the opposition added fuel to the fire in the state assembly, provoking the CM to make his "mafia ko mitti mein mila doonga" remark, when Atiq Ahmed was "main subject" of the discussion.

"Petitioner genuinely apprehends and believes that the petitioner may be killed in a fake encounter on one pretext or the other by UP police particularly in view of the statement made by the chief minister of state of UP on the floor of the house," the plea alleged.

He has sought directions restraining the state of Uttar Pradesh and others from taking him from Ahmedabad to Prayagraj or any part of Uttar Pradesh. His interrogation, if any, should be carried out at the Central Jail where he is lodged or at any other suitable place in Ahmedabad itself under the protection of Gujarat Police as well as central or paramilitary forces, the plea said.

If the transit to Prayagraj is at all necessary, it should be under the protection of any central or paramilitary force, he has asked.

Ahmed also sought a direction allowing his advocate to remain present during his interrogation and to quash warrants, if issued by any court, for taking him to Prayagraj from the Ahmedabad prison.

Ahmed pleaded that he and his family members have no connection to the Umesh Pal murder and were named in the FIR due to political and other reasons.

The main reason seems to be that his wife has joined the BSP and the party declared her as a candidate for the post of mayor in the coming election, the petition claimed.

"It was very well known to the rivals of the petitioner that if anything were to happen to Umesh Pal, then the petitioner would certainly be the prime suspect in view of the pending case against him by Umesh Pal and he will be made an accused. The same has been done," it said.

Watch: Labuschagne Left Distraught After Jadeja Rattles His Stumps

Pitch at the Holkar Cricket Stadium in Indore turned out to be a blessing for the spinners on Day 1 of the third Test between India and Australia. The first session saw India losing seven wickets with only 84 runs on the board after Matthew Kuhnemman and Nathan Lyon wrecked a havoc on the hosts' batting line-up. Post-lunch, India were skittled for 109 with Kuhnemann and Lyon returning with five and three wickets respectively. Later, Team India had a saving grace as their star all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja removed Australia's top batting order and gave his side a chance to fightback. Out of the four wickets taken by Jadeja, Marnus Labuschagne's dismissal became a major highlight of the match.

In the 35th over,  Labuschagne completely failed to judge the spinning delivery as ball stayed low and rattled the middle stump. The dismissal left the Aussie batter in disbelief as he was left astonished with the brilliance of Jadeja's spin. A distraught Labuschagne walked back to the dug out and saw the replay of his wicket.

With this, Jadeja broke the 96-run long partnership between Labuschagne and Usman Khawaja. This was the fourth time in the ongoing series that Labuschagne got removed by Jadeja. Earlier, he was dismissed twice in the Nagpur and in the first innings in Delhi.

Coming to the match, Indian batters' longstanding struggles against spin were thoroughly exposed before Australia applied themselves on a rank turner to take control of the third Test on a frantic opening day of the match in Indore on Wednesday.

Left-arm spinner Matthew Kuhnemman (5/16) picked up his maiden five-wicket haul as Australia skittled India out for a paltry 109 shortly after lunch on day one. Virat Kohli top-scored for India with 22 off 52 balls.

Trailing 0-2 in the series, Australia came out with a strong resolve and purpose to end the day at 156 for four, taking a 47-run lead.

Ravindra Jadeja (4/63) took all four wickets for India including that of stand-in captain Steve Smith (26 off 38) before close of play.

Kobe Bryant's Family Gets Rs 240 Crore In Case Over Crash Photos

Late basketball star and NBA legend Kobe Bryant's family is set to receive $29 million (around Rs ₹2,392,011,176) from Los Angeles County to settle a lawsuit over the helicopter crash photos, BBC reported. This also included the $15 million (Rs ₹1,238,060,985) that the jury awarded them last year.

The lawsuit was filed by his widow Vanessa Bryant over deputies and firefighters sharing graphic photos of the NBA star, his daughter and other victims killed in a 2020 helicopter crash. Notably, Sheriff's deputies and firefighters who rushed to the scene of the January 2020 crash snapped pictures of the carnage, including the mangled remains of the Los Angeles Lakers legend and his 13-year-old daughter.

Vanessa Bryant then sued Los Angeles County arguing that the photos violated her privacy and caused her emotional distress.

Lawyers for LA County called the settlement "fair and reasonable" adding, "We hope Mrs Bryant and her children continue to heal from their loss."

"Today marks the successful culmination of Mrs Bryant's courageous battle to hold accountable those who engaged in this grotesque conduct. She fought for her husband, her daughter, and all those in the community whose deceased families were treated with similar disrespect. We hope her victory at trial and this settlement will put an end to this practice," lawyers for Vanessa Bryant said in a statement on Tuesday.

The agreement resolves any future claims by Mr Bryant's three surviving daughters, related issues pending in state court, and other costs. Relatives of other victims were also granted $2.5 million in compensation for the photo-taking in 2021.

Kobe Bryant is widely recognized as one of the greatest basketball players ever, a figure who became the face of his sport during a glittering two decades with the Los Angeles Lakers. He was a five-time NBA champion in a career that began in 1996 straight out of high school and lasted until his retirement in 2016.

On January 26, 2020, Mr Bryant, his daughter Gianna and seven other people died in the crash in Calabasas, California.

"India's All-Time XI": Shastri's Massive Comment On R Ashwin and Jadeja

Ravichandran Ashwin should be "right up there" among India's all-time greats and his spin twin Ravindra Jadeja also isn'tfar behind, feels former India head coach Ravi Shastri. Ashwin and Jadeja has emerged as one of the deadliest duo in world cricket as they have picked a staggering 462 wickets between them in the 45 Tests that they have played together. The duo collected 16 wickets in the Delhi Test to add to their 15 in the first Test at Nagpur as India took a 2-0 lead in the four-Test series. Ashwin, who has so far taken 463 Test wickets in his illustrious 12-year international career, on Wednesday replaced England's James Anderson as the No. 1 bowler in the ICC Test rankings.

"I never compare eras, but the record that he (Ashwin) has - especially in Indian conditions - would make him a favourite to get into that (all-time XI) squad," Shastri told The ICC Review.

"In Indian conditions he's something else. I mean, you've seen some great spinners in the past. He's right up there. And the fact that he can get you runs at crucial stages makes all the difference.” The 60-year-old Shastri, who had coached India till the 2021 T20 World Cup, is also impressed with Jadeja's oustanding run in the last 18 months and feels the left-arm spin allrounder can join Ashwin in India's all-time XI.

"He (Jadeja) will start to get the credit (he deserves) now. There's no question about it. The last year, year-and-a-half, he's been simply outstanding because he's realised his potential," Shastri said.

Jadeja claimed his career-best bowling figures of seven for 42 in the second innings of Delhi Test to finish with match figures of 10 for 110. It was his second 10-wicket haul in 62 Tests in which he has 250 plus wickets. He has also scored 2619 runs with two of his three Test centuries coming in the last 12 months.

"He gives you nothing and it's a nightmare (for opposition batters). Especially, if you're not in good form, and you are in the opposition as a batsman, you'll have nightmares. You'll have Jadeja in your dreams because the guy gives you nothing.

"If it's a track where the ball is up and down, he can be even more dangerous than Ashwin. Ashwin anyway has the guy (with his) skill. But here, this guy (Jadeja) can have you on edge because one ball will skip through, one ball will turn, and he gives you nothing.

"His accuracy is so good that there are hardly any loose balls on offer." Shastri also remembered a time during his coaching tenure with India when Jadeja was promoted up the order, something which he believes proved to be a turning point for the all-rounder.

"People, and he himself, didn't actually realise how good a player he was until he actually got a couple of big scores in Test matches," Shastri said.

Shastri recollected how during his time, he had encouraged Jadeja to bat up the order in Test cricket.

"I remember we pushed him up the order as well to give him that responsibility and he has not looked back.

"When you see his technique, he plays the ball late, he plays in straight lines and he is just a fabulous cricketer."

Who Is Zafar Ahmed? UP Murder Was Plotted At His Home, Now Demolished

The daylight killing of a murder witness in Uttar Pradesh was planned in the house in Prayagraj that faced bulldozer action this morning. The house belonging to Zafar Ahmed, a close relative of gangster-turned-politician Atiq Ahmed, also hosted the killers.

The case pertains to the killing of lawyer Umesh Pal, who had witnessed the 2005 murder of Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) MLA Raju Pal, a rival of former Samajwadi Party leader Atiq Ahmed.

Atiq Ahmed, who is in jail in Ahmedabad, allegedly plotted Umesh Pal's murder before he could record a police statement.

Umesh Pal's murder was plotted at the Prayagraj house of Zafar Ahmed, which was also close to Atiq Ahmed's house. It was here that the killers met Atiq Ahmed's wife and BSP leader Shaista Parveen.

Shaista Parveen, who has been named in Umesh Pal's killing along with her son Asad Ahmed, was staying at the house with her children in 2021.

The house belonging to Zafar Ahmed, who faces half a dozen cases, did not have adequate clearances, sources said.

Arms and ammunitions were also recovered during a search of the bungalow, sources said today.

Bulldozer action is expected on the houses of Atiq Ahmed's other aides - Guddu Muslim, Nafeez, Arman, Sadakat, and Ghulam.
