"I Placed Cute Posters...": Ira On Nupur Jogging To Reach Wedding Venue

Actor Aamir Khan's daughter Ira Khan tied the knot with her longtime beau Nupur Shikhare at an intimate wedding ceremony a day ago in Mumbai.

Instead of making a grand entrance on a traditional ghodi, groom-to-be Nupur Shikhare, who is a fitness trainer, jogged from Santa Cruz in Mumbai to the wedding venue in Bandra.

Several videos circulated online in which Nupur and his boys' squad can be seen jogging their way to the wedding venue. The boys jogged for almost 8 km to reach the venue.

On Thursday, Ira took to her Instagram and reacted to Nupur's unique style of coming to his own wedding.

She shared a collage picture on her stories which she captioned, "He didn't come on a horse. He ran to the venue. And I placed cute posters along the way."

Nupur arrived at the venue in a very cool way. He was wearing a black vest and white shorts as he jogged from his house to the venue.

After reaching the venue, Nupur grooved to the beats of the dhol outside the venue.

Reportedly, Nupur and Ira met during the COVID-19 lockdown when Nupur was training Aamir Khan and Ira was living with her father.

The duo had an engagement party in November last year.

A day before their wedding, on Tuesday night, Nupur Shikhare shared a series of pictures with Ira and wrote on Instagram, "One more day of being your fiancee @khan.ira. I love you so much." In response, Ira Khan posted heart and hug emojis. In the last two pictures, the couple are seen sharing a meal.

Also, a grand wedding function has been planned in Udaipur on January 8. The couple, along with their families, will head to Udaipur soon.

"Multiple Gunshot Victims" In US High School Shooting: Police

A shooting on Thursday at a high school in the midwestern US state of Iowa left "multiple gunshot victims," local authorities said, adding the incident was over but without confirming if anyone had been killed.

"We're still unclear exactly how many are injured or what the extent of those are, but we're working on that right now. There is no further danger to the public," Dallas County Sheriff Adam Infante told reporters after the shooting at the Perry High School.

Broadcaster ABC reported that at least one person died, without indicating if that was the shooter.

The shooting occurred around 7:30 am local time (1330 GMT), Infante said, and triggered the response of local, state and federal authorities.

Perry is about 35 miles (55 kilometers) from the state capital, Des Moines.

Video and photos from the scene published by local media showed a large police presence.

The school day hadn't started at the time of the shooting, Infante said, and there were "very few students and faculty in the building, which I think contributed to a good outcome, in that sense."

Infante said that the authorities had identified the shooter, but didn't give any further details, including on any arrest.

"The community is safe. We're just now working backwards, trying to figure out everything that happened," Infante said.

Dog Attacks, Bites Woman In Noida Housing Society, Case Against Pet Owner

A domestic help working in a group housing society near Noida was bitten by a dog, prompting a police case against the pet-owner for negligence on Wednesday.

The incident took place around 5 pm at the Galaxy Royal Society in Gaur City 2 area under the Bisrakh police station limits, they said.

The 34-year-old domestic help was bitten by a German Shepherd breed dog while she was waiting in the gallery of the 18th floor of Tower B of the society where she worked, according to the complaint lodged by her husband.

The main door of the neighbouring apartment was ajar and the dog came out of the house, pouncing on the domestic help and leaving her severely injured before the pet-owner gained control on the canine.

"A similar incident had happened two months ago with a maintenance staffer of the society by the same dog," the complainant claimed, urging the police for "strict action" under a "criminal case" against the owner of the German Shepherd.

He also alleged that the pet owner "intimidated" the domestic help against filing a police complaint.

Bisrakh police station in-charge Inspector Arvind Kumar said an FIR has been lodged against the owner of the dog.

"The FIR has been registered under Indian Penal Code sections 289 (negligent conduct with respect to animals), 504 (intentional provocation to breach peace) and 506 (criminal intimidation)," Kumar told PTI.

The official said an investigation into the case is underway and while the offence is bailable it could attract a prison term or fine, or both.

"Miracle" Evacuation From Burning Japan Jet Helped By Fliers Leaving Bags

All 379 people aboard a Japan Airlines airliner escaped after a collision with a Coast Guard aircraft at Tokyo's Haneda airport that killed five of six crew on the smaller aircraft on Tuesday.

Video showed passengers being evacuated from the burning Airbus A350 by escape slides in relative calm and apparently without hand luggage, in an operation hailed as a "miracle".

Aviation safety agencies have warned for years that pausing to collect carry-on baggage risks lives during an evacuation.

Following are major milestones in passenger aircraft evacuations in recent decades:

THE 1980s

Evacuation has been a key safety priority since at least the mid-1980s, when a British Airtours Boeing 737 was engulfed in flames at Manchester airport in Britain, killing 55 people.

Investigators of the 1985 disaster said the biggest cause of death was smoke inhalation following delays in opening doors and restricted access to emergency exits.

SAFETY STUDY

A 2000 U.S. safety study said that on average, an airliner evacuation for whatever cause happens every 11 days. Such events typically only make headlines when fire is involved, but have led to improvements in door mechanisms and emergency lighting.

However, new challenges are arising from the amount of luggage passengers are allowed to take on board.

Air crash investigators have recommended stronger in-flight briefings to urge passengers to leave behind those belongings when ordered to evacuate - but often with little effect.

'REMARKABLE'

In 2016, amateur video showed passengers blocking aisles and grabbing bags from overhead bins as the cabin of an Emirates jet filled with smoke in Dubai. Cabin crew were praised after managing to evacuate all 300 people, despite the panic.

In 2018, Britain's Royal Aeronautical Society recommended the automatic locking of overhead bins following a crash landing, noting that passengers often ignore safety briefings.

"It's clearly a benefit if you're not carrying your baggage," Steve Creamer, an aviation safety consultant and former senior director at the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), said following Tuesday's Tokyo crash.

"It's pretty remarkable that they got everybody off the airplane. That says a lot about the flight crew and the discipline of the people on board."

BCCI May Start T10 League But Lalit Modi Feels It'll Be 'Doomsday'

After the success of the Indian Premier League (IPL), which has grown to be the costliest cricket tournament in the world, sources have told NDTV that a T10 league may be started by the BCCI. Though nothing is official, the sources have said that the league is being proposed in the window where the Champions League T20 was being played. The Champions League T20 was a tournament where franchises from different leagues competed.

How can a T10 League impact Indian cricket? NDTV talked to former IPL commissioner Lalit Modi on the issue.

"I can't see anything impacting IPL now or going forward. It is recession proof. It might become the No. 1 sporting event in the world in terms of viewership or revenue," Modi told NDTV over a video call.

"First there was Test cricket, then ODI Cricket and then T20 cricket. Now people are contemplating T10 cricket. Let's forget about T10 for some time. ODI is dying and it should die. People should focus on Test and T20s. Allowing another format is extremely detrimental to cricket. T20 is brand new, the teams are starting flourish. If there was another window, I would have started a second T20 league in a knockout where there would be teams competing and the top four sides would qualify for the second stage where the IPL teams may enter directly."

There is a T10 League which has been organised in the UAE since 2017.

"From the details I am hearing from you, the T10 league seems to be a tournament in which there will be a international club format. If I am right, it will be completely Doomsday from Day 1. Because there isn't a ICC T10 tournament, all the members don't have a T10 format," Modi said.

Risks Of "Donkey Flights" As Illegal Migration Rises In Punjab, Haryana

Illegal immigration by young Indians to countries such as the US, the UK, and Canada has come under spotlight as a plane carrying suspected victims of human trafficking was rerouted to India. The flight, which made headlines last week, was on its way to Nicaragua after being detained in France.

"Donkey Flight" has become the catchall term for such illegal movements -- a corruption of the Punjabi work "dunki" meaning to hop from one place to another.

Every year more than 20,000 young men and women from Punjab attempt irregular migration, the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime hjhad said in a report back in 2009.

As the intercepted flight indicated, the number has only grown. While no consolidated data exists given the secrecy exercised, there are other indicators.

Since 2012, the Punjab Police have issued over 10 lakh Police Clearance Certificates (PCC) -- a spike that raises aspirations even among those of the young generation who have no means to move abroad.  

A Special Investigation Team has handled about 645 such cases, resulting in 518 arrests, Anil Vij, the Home Minister Haryana has said on Saturday.

The process is not easy. Apart from the high financial cost, there is every risk of being thrown into jail at any stage.

"My agent had promised to send me to Italy for 12 lakhs," said Rahul, a resident of Haryana's Kurukshetra, recalling his bid to migrate a few months ago.

"On April 8, they sent me first to Dubai and then to Egypt and was told that I will be sent to Libya from where I will have a direct flight," he said.

Though he managed to reach Libya, he soon found the cost was too great -- landing in jail shortly after.

One day he suffered a heart attack in jail. Thought to be dead, he was thrown on the sand outside.

"The people in the jail protested seeing me like this and tried to break the jail. Then I was taken to the hospital. As soon as I came to my senses, I was taken by the people of the Embassy and after making a white passport, I was brought to India," he said.

Many others are not lucky enough to make it back.

Shiv Kumar, a resident of Kaithal, sent his son to Portugal mortgaging his ancestral land. For the last seven months, he has been running from pillar to post to get his son back.

Though a police case has been lodged against the agent who sent his son abroad, there is no clue to the young man's whereabouts.

"Till date, we do not know where our son is. We last spoke to him on June 8. Two agents got bail and are now on the run... I have appealed to many places... lodged a complaint on the government's Madad App but no help came. We came to know that a boat on way from Libya to Italy sank," he added, breaking down.

Many others, like Malkeet from Kaithal district, the journey proved fatal.
His family got to know of his death from a video that had gone viral.

NDTV approached many travel agents seeking details. Only one person agreed to speak on condition of anonymity.

"There are two kind of illegal routes through which we send people abroad. One is through the forest route which is less expensive -- around 30-40 lakh... these days Turkey is the transit point... From Turkey a visa for Costa Rica is obtained...then to Panama," he said.

The payment has to be made in tranches at every phase -- Rs 10 lakh has to be paid in Turkey, another 10 lakh in Costa Rica and final payments have to be made in two tranches at the Mexico border.

In the second category, the travel is by air, which costs around Rs 40 to 50 lakh and the people are sent by air through any European country.

Even so, dozens of Indians are taking to social media to document their journey, offering tips, route suggestions and risk assessments.

After the flight returned from Bangalore, both Punjab and Haryana have cracked down on fake agents. Punjab has formed a Special Investigation Team to probe the issue.  Haryana said it already has one, which has been going after the fraudulent agents.

"The state government will bring a bill in the winter session of the state assembly to regulate immigration agents and agencies," said Anil Vij.

Watch: Employees Get Into Argument During Zoom Meeting Over Hindi Language

A video of an argument between employees over the Zoom call meeting has surfaced online and sparked a flurry of reactions from social media users. The clip was shared on X (formerly X) by a page called 'Ghar ke Kalesh'. It showed several workers deciding their New Year plans over the video call. However, as soon as one person started speaking in Hindi, an argument ensued between colleagues over the language. 

In the short video, one of the employees requested the other to speak in English as he and others didn't understand Hindi. The man proceeded to communicate in English but he soon switched to Hindi again, which agitated the others and led to an argument between the group. One of the workers tried to pacify the situation as well by adding that he would translate whatever the man was saying, while another requested her colleagues not to start a fight over a "petty issue". However, the agitated employees refused to listen and started talking in their own native language.

The date of the video is unclear. However, since being shared a few days back, it has garnered more than 1 million views. The clip has even sparked a flurry of reactions from X users. While some people supported the man speaking in Hindi, others had different opinions. 

"It's amusing how none of them has a problem conversing in english but get burnt if someone starts speaking Hindi lmao. Come on, if you couldn't understand Hindi you could have politely said it, & if you know it there's no problem in understanding like two three sentences," wrote one user.

"In my 16 years of IT career I never initiated regional language discussion during any team meeting since we know not everyone understands all the language so keep it common. However, I get surprised when the initiation comes for client leaders, does not matter which state they come from, be it Maha or TN or KN or WB or even Delhi the language will he Hindi if they are just all them or even me on the call. I never mind and why should I? So yes these are petty issues there is something called politeness like one of the guy here. Keep the language common so all can understand, ask them before if they are all fine with the language," commented another. 

"I side with the Tamils on this one. If you have even one person who wouldn't understand what you're saying, talk in the corporate language that is ENGLISH," expressed a third user. "Why can he not speak in English when his colleagues can't understand Hindi? The problem is in the communication and he's interpreting it as a prestige issue," added another.
