For now, no GST on oil products

The Centre has virtually ruled out immediately including petroleum products under GST. The Centre is of the view that the change may not pass muster with the states, which want to retain flexibility in taxing. However, the overall levy is not going to reduce significantly as the govt will impose cess above the 28% rate to ensure that there is no loss to the exchequer.
